Greater East Side Neighborhood
The Greater East Side neighborhood of Saint Paul was originally platted in 1885 by Williams Ames in the neighborhood now known as Hazel Park. There were few houses built before the turn of the century and only a handful of these historic homes remain to this day. The majority of the homes built in this area were constructed after World War II in the typical rambler and Cape Cod styles. There have been several more recent housing developments along Beaver Lake just off McKnight road.
The neighborhood is bordered on two sides by Maplewood with Dayton’s Bluff to its west and Battle Creek to its south. Greater East Side is home to Hillcrest Country Club, which was established in 1921. With rolling hills and mature trees, this par 72 course will challenge and satisfy players of every skill level. White Bear Avenue serves as the main street of the area with an abundance of churches, schools, and shopping.
This suburban area provides quiet living within minutes of downtown Saint Paul, the businesses along Phalen Corridor, 3-M headquarters, and employment and retail opportunities in the neighboring city of Maplewood.
